THE DROPAIR GUIDE

Share files over Wi-Fi.
Keep them between devices.

Move a photo from your phone to a computer, send a document to your other laptop, or share a folder across your local network.

What you need

Two devices with a compatible modern browser, connected to the same local network. A computer using Ethernet can share with a phone on that network’s Wi-Fi. You need internet access to open Dropair and establish the connection; file contents then travel directly between devices.

Pair the two browsers

  1. Open Dropair on both devices.
  2. On the first device, choose Pair a device and copy its private pairing link.
  3. Open that link on your second device. Wait until the devices show as connected.

Treat the pairing link like a private invitation. Anyone with it can join that space. Check the receiving device and only approve files you expect.

Send photos, videos or documents

Choose files on the sending device and select what you want to share. You can remove individual items or clear the selection before sending. Then select the receiving device. On that device, accept each incoming file. Keep both pages open while the transfer runs.

Dropair verifies the received bytes before marking a transfer complete. Choose Save on the recipient to export the file to downloads. Browser storage is not a backup: clearing site data can remove received files you have not exported.

Move a folder between computers

On a desktop browser that supports folder selection, choose Choose folder. Dropair packages its contents into a ZIP archive, preserving nested paths. Send the archive, save it on the other computer, and extract it with the recipient’s file manager.

If the devices will not connect

Check both devices are on the same network and using the same pairing invitation. Guest networks often keep devices apart. A VPN, firewall or workplace Wi-Fi policy may also block direct connections. Try a trusted home network with both pages open. Dropair does not relay files when a direct connection is unavailable.

How this differs from AirDrop

AirDrop is Apple’s built-in sharing service. Dropair’s website uses browser-to-browser connections and private pairing links, so the receiving device needs a compatible browser, not Apple’s AirDrop service. Dropair is an independent product and is not affiliated with Apple.

What about the iPhone app?

The native Dropair iPhone app is in development and is not yet available on the App Store. You can use the browser version now. We will publish the App Store link when Apple approves the release.
