Who runs Dropair
Dropair is published by Jamie Faulkner, who is responsible for the personal information processed to operate this service. Contact jamiefaulkner21@icloud.com for support or privacy requests.
Your files and pairing
Files travel directly between paired devices over encrypted connections. Dropair does not upload file contents to its server and does not provide cloud file storage or a file relay. Only send files to devices you recognise. A recipient can keep or share files you send them.
The connection service processes your IP address, device name, temporary device identifier, a derived pairing-room identifier and connection negotiation details so your devices can find and connect to each other. These connection details may include local network addresses and are exchanged with peers in your pairing space. Your private pairing secret is held on your devices; keep pairing links and QR codes private.
Storage on your devices
The website uses browser storage for your pairing space, device name, preferences, received files and transfer history, including file names and sizes. This storage supports the sharing features you request. Received files and history stay on your device until you remove them, clear site data or your browser removes its storage. Clearing site data also resets your saved pairing details. Export files you want to keep first.
On iPhone, received files and scanned PDFs are saved locally. Camera access is used for scanning when you choose that feature. Dropair does not send scanned documents to a document-processing service.
Nearby discovery
While “Discoverable nearby” is enabled, your device name and temporary identifier are shown to other discoverable Dropair users sharing your public internet address. This may include other people on office, hotel or shared-provider networks; it is not proof that a device belongs to you. You can switch discovery off without disabling QR pairing. Check the matching six-digit codes and approve only devices you recognise. Approval shares an encrypted invitation to your private space; files still require separate acceptance. Discovery requests expire after one minute, and active discovery information is removed when the connection closes.
Service providers and retention
Hostinger provides our website and connection-server hosting. Network information is processed to deliver and protect the service. The Dropair connection server keeps active peer and room information in memory while devices are connected; it does not maintain a database of your transfers. Temporary connection and rate-limiting information can remain in memory until it is cleaned up or the service restarts. Hosting providers may process operational and security records under their own retention practices.
If you email support, we receive your email address and the information you include. We keep correspondence for as long as needed to resolve your request and deal with related issues or legal obligations. Please do not email pairing secrets or confidential files.
Advertising and purchases
Website advertising is not active at present. We are preparing Google AdSense for the main sharing page at www.dropair.online and Google AdMob for the iOS app. The main browser page embeds its file-sharing controls from dropair.online, a separate browser origin that does not load advertising scripts. Files, pairing secrets and transfer history remain within that protected workspace. Only its display height and a yes/no signal for hiding ads are sent to the surrounding page; filenames, device names, file contents and pairing links are not. Before live advertising is enabled, we will provide the relevant consent controls and update this notice to describe the active setup.
When enabled, Google and advertising partners may use cookies, device identifiers, IP addresses and ad interaction information to serve, measure and, where you agree, personalise ads. Learn about Google’s use of data on partner sites and apps and Google ad preferences. Optional advertising storage and personalisation will be subject to the applicable consent choices.
iOS purchases, when available, are handled by Apple. Dropair uses verified App Store transactions to determine Plus access and does not receive your payment card details. A paired Plus iPhone can announce its Plus status to the connected browser; it does not send an Apple account identifier or receipt. The protected workspace can ask the surrounding page to hide ads while a Plus device is connected or while files are selected or transferring. This carries no receipt, account identifier or file data.
Why we process information
We use connection and support information for our legitimate interests in providing the sharing service you request, answering support enquiries and protecting the service from abuse. Where consent is required for optional advertising technologies, we will ask for it before using those technologies. We may also retain information where necessary to meet a legal obligation. We do not make solely automated decisions about you with legal or similarly significant effects.
Your choices and rights
You can disconnect devices, change pairing spaces, delete saved files and history, or clear browser storage. Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of personal information we hold, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it. Contact us at the email above; information stored only on your own devices must be managed on those devices.
You can also raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or your local data protection authority. We will update this page when our data practices change.
